Mystery at West Laurel Hill Cemetery

The Challenge...

The West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, PA had a very unique space...in which 100 years prior a mysterious fire and disappearance had taken place.  They wanted to tell the story in an interesting way, highlighting the history of the cemetery while also entertaining their guests.

Our Solution...

We created a custom written script, pulling on the fascinating history of the Cemetery and of the Bell Tower, which had burned down and been rebuilt 100 years earlier.  Our writing staff dove into the history, creating a piece that was intended to inform as well as entertain.   Our team produced:

  • A full script and fully rehearsed production of "The Watchman."

  • A "clue bar," at which custom designed clues were displayed for the audience to peruse.

  • Six professional actors in custom designed costumes.

  • Lighting design for the stage area of the room.

  • A custom music playlist to compliment the theme of the evening.

The Result...

The guests gathered for cocktail hour to the sounds of a string quartet on a warm evening in October.  As they enjoyed cocktails in the lovely fall weather, the cast prepared in the performance space.  When the doors opened and the guests entered, the fun began!

For three hours, the guests were told the story of The Watchman, ultimately trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding his presumed murder.  They also were treated to a delicious three course meal, all in the "Greenhouse" area of the Bell Tower.

Once the action had been all played, the guests took their turn at detective, submitting ballots with their thoughts as to which suspect had committed the crime.  Of course, there was a twist at the very end!
